The international PLCopen standard gives teams a common language for programming motion control applications in a reusable, vendor-independent way. Lenze publishes a book on the subject, "PLCopen Motion Control – Basics and Examples", as a free download.
The book moves from the fundamentals of PLCs and motion control and the importance of IEC 61131-3 and PLCopen standardisation, through project setup and commissioning in Lenze PLC Designer, to single-axis and multi-axis control and robotic axis groups. Practical examples from packaging and conveyor technology – such as pick-and-place, conveyor belts and palletising – make it easy to transfer the knowledge directly to real projects, and a glossary and symbol index round it off.
Nearly all examples are built around a sample chocolate packaging machine made up of modules for material feed, a delta-robot picker cell, flow packer, cartoning and palletising. Every example and screenshot in the book uses Lenze hardware together with the PLC Designer tool, which makes the content a solid starting point for teams that want to build machine software on standardised function blocks with Lenze FAST Application Software.
