WG50 is a modular WEG industrial gearbox series developed for heavy industries such as mining, steel, sugar and ethanol, fertilisers, and pulp and paper. The housing is designed for easy maintenance, better heat dissipation and oil circulation, while the gearing is optimised to reduce noise and increase durability and efficiency.
The series offers output torques from 7,500 Nm to 520,000 Nm across 23 sizes, W01 to W23. Parallel shaft (F) and right-angle (K) arrangements provide ratios from 6.3 to 450 with 2, 3 or 4 stages; right-angle T versions cover ratios from 16 to 450. A modular housing split at shaft centre height adapts to different mounting positions and simplifies maintenance.
Finite element analysis (FEA) and topology analysis of the housing, motor flange and torque arm, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of the fan and housing, were used during development. Main accessories include a backstop, cooling coil, fan, adjustable torque arm and a pump-driven lubrication and cooling system.
